Usually, I’m the least interested person you could possibly find when it comes to soccer. In fact, I don’t even know what the “right” term is – football or soccer? It makes sense to use “soccer” to avoid confusion with American football. But I have also been told off by rabid fans who say that it’s “football” and who say that I use “soccer” because, frankly, what would a girl know about the beautiful game or the mania that surrounds it?

But right know, as World Cup fever sears the sidewalks, I, too, have been overtaken by the mania.

It’s not the first time. In fact, it’s not the second time either – it happens every 4 years.

I love the camaraderie I’m sharing with millions of people all over the world; that I can sit in a room full of strangers and cheer for a common goal. That I can yell and say “referee kayu” and not be stared at. That I can say Zizou is the best (and hottest!) player to walk the face of the earth and have someone like BigBoi101 agree with me.

As we head towards that final match, the pressing question on our minds is, who do you want to see win the World Cup 2006? I know which team I’m rooting for, what about you?
