How to cook like Kylie?

Tags: , , , , ,

The Kylie Kwong contest has finally ended on Yahoo! Answers with her final question posted about 2 weeks ago, asking all of you what kind of organic food is available in Singapore, and where to find them.

Discovery Travel & Living’s Kylie Kwong, host of KYLIE KWONG: MY CHINA in Kuala Lumpur.

32 of you replied with great answers but the best one went to Crystal. She suggested various shops all over Singapore that sells organic food, with addresses and phone numbers intact!

Here’s Kylie’s personal message to Crystal:

Wow! Thanks so much for all of this information Crystal! It is very encouraging to note that Singaporean’s interest for organic food is on the rise. I think it is so absolutely important that we all take some sort of responsibility for the dismal physical state of our planet. I try and encourage people to ‘vote with their forks or chopsticks’ – to understand that what we as consumers buy at the supermarket or the market, food stores, really makes a difference to the planet. If we communicate more readily and directly with our country’s primary producers, then that is the way we create change. I also believe in the fact that ‘we need to be the change we want to see’ – so Crystal, please keep supporting the organic movement and purchase locally grown, organic produce wherever and whenever possible. Thank you!

Manhole?? (Psst, why not a “Personhole”?)

Tags: , , , ,

Yup, the metal thingy that covers the “entrance” to the sewer! Though who wants to go in there (besides those who absolutely need to for work) beats me. *Shrug* It’s just a metal cover that I tread upon day aManhole cover - Hakodate, squid [squared circle]fter day, thus why the fuss?

Well we may not pay much attention to it, but do you know that some countries spice up their manholes with special designs? Bet ya didn’t know that! ;) When I was backpacking in Hokkaido with my friend in 2002, we saw the cutest manhole with 3 smiley squids on them (Photo thanks to Mr Wabu). Don’t they look absolutely happy? And while backpacking in the island of Rhodes, Greece, my friend and I spotted manholes with delicate steel etchings of the famous deer. These manholes are an art on its own!

Singapore Arts Festival - ManholesSpeaking of art and manholes, there’s an ongoing contest by the Singapore Arts Festival hosted on Flickr Groups called ArtsFest Photo Shootout. Believe it or not, even the manholes in over 15 locations in Singapore are involved in the Arts Fest! So try and spot the Arts Fest sticker-covered manholes and snap away with your cameras or trusty phones. The most creative photos (and their ‘owners’) get to win prizes such as Arts Festival tickets, Kenneth Cole watches and even a 3D/2N stay at Bangkok! Wow!

You have up to Sunday, 15th June 2008 to compete for the tickets and watches, and up to Monday, 30th June 2008 for the trip (all submitted entries are eligible for the trip). So what are you waiting for?

(Psst, if you are out of ideas, maybe you can get a group of friends and get them to wriggle their fingers around the manhole sticker. *Giggle*)

Congratulations goldstar_holder

goldstar_holder, our winner!
There’s no better way to start the week then to collect a well-earned prize. One of our seasoned answers, goldstar_holder, sauntered into our office today to collect his well-earned gift pack for his participation in our Purple Christmas campaign.I think we scared him with the camera but he gamely talked to us about his experience on Answers. He said he logged on as often as he could, sometimes answering 3-4 questions a day. Looking at the questions he likes to answer, we’re happy to see that he’s really proud of Singapore and takes the time to answer really local questions. A selection of best answers from him:

He says the questions he loves best are the travel-related ones. Well, we’re mighty glad he’s been sharing his local knowledge and helping people get the answers they were looking for. Thanks goldstar_holder for being such a help. You make Answers a great place to share knowledge.

Congrats again goldstar_holder.

Cheers,
